Szklarska Poręba is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Polish Sudetes. Located at the foot of the Karkonosze Mountains, it attracts visitors year-round with exceptional scenery, numerous natural attractions and excellent conditions for hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.
One of the town’s best-known symbols is Kamieńczyk Waterfall- the highest waterfall on the Polish side of the Karkonosze Mountains, whose waters cascade down three tiers from a height of 27 metres. The picturesque Szklarka Waterfall, set amid dense forest, is equally popular. The main destination for mountain hikes remains Szrenica (1362 m above sea level), one of the Karkonosze Mountains’ best-known peaks. Numerous trails lead to its summit, offering expansive views of the Polish and Czech sides of the mountains. Szklarska Poręba is also one of Poland’s leading cycling centres. An extensive trail network runs through both the Karkonosze and Izera Mountains, enabling active exploration of the region. Singletrack routes are especially popular, offering dynamic rides along specially prepared forest trails. Highlights include Mała i Duża Szklarska Pętla, passing through the area’s most attractive spots, as well as longer routes linking Polish and Czech mountain areas. In winter, tourist activity moves to Jakuszyce, regarded as the capital of Polish cross-country skiing. Its extensive network of professionally prepared trails attracts thousands of amateurs and professionals every year. The Bieg Piastów trails have earned particular renown as the venue for Poland’s largest cross-country skiing event.
A combination of exceptional natural attractions, an extensive network of hiking trails and excellent sports facilities makes Szklarska Poręba one of Poland’s most attractive resorts. It combines scenic beauty with opportunities for active recreation all year round.
